If you were waiting for another chance to appear for FMGE in 2026, you may not have to wait much longer. After weeks of protests by foreign medical graduates over the June 2026 FMGE, NBEMS has now agreed to conduct an additional FMGE by the end of October 2026.
What is confirmed
NBEMS has agreed to conduct an additional FMGE by the end of October 2026, recorded in a meeting notice dated 27 August 2026 after discussions with the protesting FMG student community. The notice also says the examination fee will be reduced for the next exam. The exact date, application window and revised fee are not yet announced, so wait for the official notification before planning around any date.
The decision was recorded in a meeting notice issued on 27 August 2026, following discussions between NBEMS officials and representatives of the protesting FMG student community. For you, this means there is now another opportunity to appear for FMGE this year. But before you start planning around an October date, here is what has been confirmed so far, what to expect next, and what to start preparing now.
Confirmed
- An additional FMGE by the end of October 2026
- Recorded in the 27 August 2026 meeting notice
- Examination fee to be reduced for the next exam
- Protest called off by 4 PM on 27 August 2026
Still awaited
- Exact examination date
- Application window (open and close dates)
- The revised examination fee amount
- Session-specific eligibility and document list
Why was an additional FMGE announced?
The additional FMGE comes after weeks of protests by foreign medical graduates following the June 2026 examination. Candidates had raised concerns about several aspects of the examination, including the difficulty of the paper, video-based questions, examination-centre conditions and transparency in the examination process. The June examination recorded a 12.38% pass percentage, with 4,636 of 37,448 candidates qualifying, according to the figures used in our FMGE coverage.
The concerns continued to be raised through August, with representatives of the protesting FMG student community holding discussions with NBEMS. The outcome of these discussions was formally recorded in the meeting notice dated 27 August 2026. One of the major demands raised during the protest was relief for candidates who appeared for the June examination, including grace or compensatory marks.
Important distinction: the additional October examination should not be confused with the demand for grace marks. The expert committee constituted to review the June FMGE did not recommend retrospective changes to the June result or compensatory marks. Instead, the additional examination gives eligible candidates another opportunity to appear for FMGE this year.
The 27 August notice also records that the student representatives agreed to call off the ongoing protest by 4 PM on the same day. So if you have been following the FMGE protest and wondering what the discussions have actually led to, this is the key update: NBEMS has agreed to conduct an additional FMGE by the end of October 2026.
When will the October FMGE application open?
If you are planning to appear for the additional FMGE, the application dates are probably the first thing you want to know. As of now, NBEMS has not announced the exact examination date or application window for the October 2026 FMGE. The 27 August 2026 meeting notice confirms that the additional examination will be conducted by the end of October 2026, but it does not specify when applications will open or when the examination itself will be held.
The notice also states that the FMGE examination fee will be reduced for the next examination. However, the revised fee for the October session has not been announced yet, so do not rely on any specific fee amount being circulated online until NBEMS releases the official application notification. If you are not sure how the FMGE application process works or what you need to keep ready before registration, you can also refer to our FMGE application and registration guide.
So if you come across a specific registration date being shared on Telegram, WhatsApp, Instagram or student groups, do not treat it as confirmed yet. Wait for the official NBEMS notification before planning around any application start date, last date, payment deadline or examination date. You can keep checking the official NBEMS FMGE page for the application notification and other updates. Once the October notification is released, it will give you the exact dates and instructions to follow. Until then, use this waiting period to get your documents and preparation in order rather than waiting for the application form to open.
Which documents should you keep ready?
The October application notification is still awaited, so we do not have the final document checklist for this session yet. But that does not mean you need to wait before getting organised. If you are planning to appear for the additional FMGE, start by keeping the documents and information that were required for the June 2026 application ready.
Common documents to arrange now
- Valid passport or applicable proof of citizenship
- Primary Medical Qualification certificate and eligibility documents
- Indian Embassy attestation of your Primary Medical Qualification, if applicable
- Eligibility Certificate or applicable admission document
- NEET-UG result, if it applies to your admission category
- Recent photograph, signature and thumb impression in the prescribed digital format
The important thing is that your requirements may not be the same as another candidate's. Your citizenship, admission timeline and medical qualification can affect which documents apply to you, so do not simply follow a checklist shared in a student group and assume you are covered. Use the October 2026 Information Bulletin as your final checklist once NBEMS releases it. Getting the common documents ready now gives you enough time to sort out any missing or incomplete paperwork before the application window opens, instead of trying to fix everything at the last minute.
What else was agreed during the meeting?
The additional October exam is not the only update that came out of the discussions. Several other changes were recorded in the 27 August notice.
Other changes recorded in the notice
- Three FMGE sessions a year starting next year, planned for December or January, April or May, and August or September.
- A 30:50:20 difficulty split that NBEMS has agreed to work towards, across low, moderate and difficult questions.
- Greater response transparency: publishing the question IDs, correct answer IDs, your marked response IDs and the marks awarded per question on the applicant portal.
- Better centre facilities and an additional one minute per section, up to a maximum of three minutes per shift, to accommodate biometric attendance.
- A stronger FMG voice: the request to include an FMG representative in the NBEMS grievance redressal committee will be considered by the NBEMS Governing Body, with more frequent NBEMS and FMG interaction.
These changes are important, especially if you are planning to appear for FMGE again. But do not assume that every change listed in the 27 August notice will automatically apply to the October examination. For your October attempt, follow the specific notification and instructions released by NBEMS for that session.
What should you do now?
If you are planning to appear for the additional FMGE, you do not have to wait for the application window to open to start getting ready. Start with your documents: check your qualification certificate, citizenship documents, and any applicable attestation, apostille or eligibility documents. If something is missing or needs to be arranged, sorting it out now will give you one less thing to worry about when the application window opens.
Then look at your preparation. If you appeared for the June FMGE, do not treat this as starting all over again. You already know what the examination felt like, where you struggled, and which parts of your preparation did not work. Use that experience. Go back to the questions you got wrong and look at the subjects where your performance was weakest. Were you forgetting facts, struggling with concepts, running out of time, or simply not doing enough MCQs? Your mistakes can tell you much more about what to revise than another round of passive reading. You also do not need to abandon everything you studied for June and start from scratch.
We also know that the last few weeks have not been easy. The June examination, the concerns raised by candidates, the protests and the uncertainty that followed can leave you feeling exhausted and unsure about what to do next. But you have something concrete to work towards now. The additional October FMGE gives you another opportunity to appear this year. So get your documents ready, keep an eye on the official NBEMS notification, and use the time you have to prepare. You do not need to have every detail of the October examination figured out today. You just need to be ready when your opportunity comes.
